Zara was born in 1996 and lives in rural Hampshire. Originally following a more traditional path in maths and science, her complete and absolute obsession for all things chocolate started to take over her life. She changed track and made the decision to go to the National Bakery School, where she studied chocolate under Barry Johnson and gained a distinction. Zara also completed a summer internship with the highly acclaimed Paul A Young.
In 2015, Zara beat over 70 professional and amateur chocolatiers to win the ‘Great British Spiced Chocolate Challenge’ and a trip to the Chocolate Festival in Grenada. The trip to Grenada was the most perfect prize as it gave Zara the opportunity to deepen her knowledge of cocoa. She saw first-hand how cocoa pods are harvested, the beans are fermented and dried and how chocolate is made. It has helped deepen her appreciation of cocoa after being a cocoa farmer herself for a day.
Earlier this year, Zara launched her own company, Winchester Fine Chocolates. All chocolates are fresh and completely handmade using only the finest ingredients and, where possible, locally sourced. Zara’s perfectionism and flair for flavour have already won her a contract to supply a Michelin-starred restaurant.
Winchester Fine Chocolates exhibited at The Chocolate Show, Olympia in 2016, where Zara also gave a demonstration of her award-winning ‘Moroccan Rose’ chocolate, in the Chocolate Theatre alongside Barry Johnson.
